100 Things to do in America Before You Die

So many people talk about traveling the world.  What really surprises me is the number of people that haven’t even seen everything our own country has to offer! I’m lucky to have made it to over 40 of the 50 states, and want our sons to be able to say the same.  This is why I was excited to get a review copy of 100 Things to do in America Before You Die, by Bill Clevlen. The book is truly a fun guide to understanding the complex fabric of the United States and the people that call it home.

The great thing is that it’s not simply a listing of places to visit but more a catalogue of uniquely American experiences.  From sipping on southern sweet tea to standing where the Wright Brothers tested their first “flying machine”, each experience makes up an important piece of our American story. It’s an enlightening mix of history, entertainment, art, food, sports, and even places to cross off your “selfie” bucket list.

What happened to the days of loading up the kids in the station wagon after school let out for the year? Hitting the road, and heading off on a family vacation?  From the Largest Ball of String (Cawker City, Kansas) to the National Museum of Roller Skating (Lincoln, Nebraska), there was something exciting for everyone to see. (Of course, the term “exciting” is subject to opinion.) 100 Things to Do in America Before You Die was written to inspire road trips across the country.  Mountains, museums, fried chicken, small towns, and yes, even the world’s tallest mailbox—they are all out there waiting for you to visit them with your kids!

It’s now the beginning of June, and that final school bell has rung for most kids. Why not get packed and set out on an adventure they’ll never forget?  I’m willing to bet that you have some of these great attractions right in your own backyard!

Don’t know where to begin?

You can start by winning my copy of 100 Things to do in America Before You Die. That’s right!  At the end of the month I’ll be sending one of you my copy of the book! That way you can plan your own family vacation!

I’ve been to the Grand Canyon, but would love to take the family there. I would love to take them to: horse back riding in Wyoming, a cruise in Alaska, surfing in Hawaii, Disneyworld and deep sea fishing in Maine.

Key West to Seattle, perhaps? We love that idea! I can just see it. A culinary feast happening from sea to shining sea!

Great Choice! One of our writers lives super close to the Grand Canyon (Las Vegas) and he says it’s a trip of a lifetime!

So much to see, so much to do . . . Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, and Mt. Rushmore are all on our list.

I want to take my twin girls to see Lady Liberty in July. We already got tickets to go all the way up to the crown, but of course money issues are coming into play. Hopefully it works out for us.
