If you have toddlers, chances are likely that they have Minion Fever. For example, our family has both Despicable 1 and 2 saved on our DVR, and it’s gotten to the point that our twins don’t even bother calling the movies by name anymore. They either ask to watch “coffee” (referencing one of the opening scenes in the first movie where the anti-hero stops in to a local shop for his morning dose of caffeine) or “birthday party” (because the second movie begins with Gru’s daughter Agnes having…well, a birthday party.) I’ve even listened in while they were interacting, and heard them “playing minion.” Well…they could have just been talking gibberish…but it sure sounded a lot like the pint-sized characters that follow Mr. Gru around.
Last week we were invited to the prescreening of the newest release in the franchise, Despicable Me 3, and let me just say…it was a hit! It marked our sons’ first movie in a theatre (Hey…don’t judge), and they did absolutely incredible. I mean… 90 minutes is a long time for ME to sit still, much less a couple of 4 year-olds. We talked about the movie all the way home, and for most of the next day. In fact, because of their love of the characters, I’m sure that once it’s released on video, it will be the newest addition to their collection.
This is why when my wife shared a cool recipe / craft idea on my Facebook page. I couldn’t help but get excited for them. The idea is from a friend of mine, fellow dad, Beau Coffron, creator of the site Lunchbox Dad. You may remember Beau from the post we did a couple months ago about spicing up your kids’ lunches. I’ve included some photos below of our finished product, and the video that inspired our afternoon craft. In a nutshell, he takes bananas, yellow candy melts, modeling sugar, and some candy googly eyes, and turns them into the cutest treat any minion lover could ask for.
Check out the cool video!
